News Invicta Grammar planting 11,000 bulbs in Mote Park

More than 70 sixth form pupils from Invicta Grammar School will be planting 11,000 bulbs in Maidstone Borough Council’s Mote Park on Friday.

The students will be hard at work from 10 am around the park helping to create beautiful areas full of spring flowering native daffodils, blue bells and wood anemone as part of a volunteering community day, which is dedicated to giving back and donating time to the local community.

Emma Harrington, Deputy Head of Upper School at Invicta Grammar School said:

“All students in our sixth form will be out and about volunteering in different organisations on Friday. Last year ten students built bug hotels in the park and said it was a rewarding experience to be able to contribute to the community we live in. We are really looking forward to coming along to Mote Park again.”

Alan Frith, Mote Park Officer will be on hand, organising and helping the students, he said:

“It will be a real pleasure to have students from Invicta Grammar back again. The students who attended last year worked hard and showed a real interest in the work we are doing at Mote Park. This was impressive as it was one of the wettest days of the year and they all just worked through the rain.”

Nicola Toulson, who leads the Maidstone Borough Council Go Green Go Wild scheme will also be helping the students planting.

The students will be planting all 11,000 spring bulbs by hand, which will flower March to April time. They will be positioned in various locations around the main entrance and the wooded area to the back of the leisure centre.
