MBC prepare for EU elections in May image

Maidstone Borough Council (MBC) has started to prepare for the European Parliamentary elections scheduled for Thursday 23 May 2019.

As the situation currently stands, the UK will be participating in the European Parliamentary Elections. Voting will take place on 23 May between 7am and 10pm, with the count being held on Sunday 26 May.  Registration to vote closes on 7 May, and residents who are not currently registered are encouraged to visit: www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

EU citizens resident in the borough, can also vote in the European Parliamentary elections, but only if they are registered and have completed the necessary additional form to do so.  All EU Citizens in the borough have been written to by MBC with the relevant form, which can be found online:  https://www.yourvotematters.co.uk/how-am-i-represented/european-parliment

Maidstone is part of the south east region and candidates for that area will soon be published along with details on how residents can cast their vote will be made available as per normal procedures.

Residents should expect to receive a European Parliamentary poll card through the post from 30 April 2019, (which will be in addition to the Local election poll card in some areas).

Maidstone Borough Council has an important role to play in ensuring a full and fair election is run in the south east and we will be working closely with Southampton as the lead authority.  We would urge residents to ensure they are registered, and EU Citizens who wish to vote here to make sure they complete their forms as soon as possible.
