Maidstone Borough Council (MBC) is encouraging residents and businesses to save time with a safe, worry free Council Tax and Business Rate payment this month.

Council Tax & Business Rates are payable on every domestic and business property and applies to anyone who is 18 or over who owns or rents a property. These contribute towards the cost of services such as: education, fire and police services, libraries, rubbish collections and planning.

Louise Goodsell, Customer Services Manager for MBC, said: “We are encouraging residents and businesses from across the borough to look at ways of paying their Council Tax and Business Rates which are quicker, easier and safer this financial year.

“By setting up a direct debit, making an online payment or over the phone you would be letting the Council do all the work, and would save time and the inconvenience of visiting MBC at The Link in the town centre in order to pay Council Tax or Business Rates.

“Anyone having financial difficulties and wanting to spread their payments can have a different payment plan set up, however the full balance should be paid within the same financial year.”

Residents and business of Maidstone and across the borough are able to choose to pay their Council Tax/Business Rates in several secure ways:

  • Pay by Direct Debit – Choose the date to pay and spread payments over 10 to 12 monthly instalments, visit the Direct Debit page
  • Pay Online - It's quicker and easier to make a single payment online, visit the Online Payment page
  • Pay by Phone – or use the automated payment system which is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, by calling 01622 602544 and selecting option 1 for Council Tax or option 4 for Business Rates.  You will need to have your reference number ready and know how much you want to pay

Council Tax and Business Rates are worked out based on a property's banding.  Please see Bands and Charges page for further information.
