Mayor of Maidstone, Marion Ring played host to 15 members of the Maidstone Nepalese Gurkha Community at the Town Hall on Friday as they made a donation to her Charity Community Fund.

Each year, representatives of the Gurkha Community based in Maidstone ask to meet with the new Mayor.

Maidstone has a long military connection with the Gurkha’s and the Nepalese community, which have historic links going back 200 years.

This year, rather than nominating three chosen charities, the Mayor will instead raise funds for a community chest. Small charities will be invited to apply for sums to help their projects at the end of her Mayoral year in April 2020.

Marion Ring, Mayor of Maidstone said:

"It is an honour to meet members of the Maidstone Gurkha community and accept their generous gift towards the community chest. People from the Nepalese community in Maidstone play an integral role in our community and this donation demonstrates their commitment to the town. I can’t thank them enough."
