An historic ceremony has taken place in Maidstone today, 11 September to proclaim the new King Charles III, with hundreds of local residents coming along to witness the momentous occasion in Jubilee Square.
Maidstone, as the County Town of Kent, is leading the proclamation of the new King on Sunday 11 September between 12.45pm and finishing by around 1pm in Jubilee Square, with all other boroughs in Kent following this announcement.
The Mayor of Maidstone Cllr Derek Mortimer would like to express the deep sadness of the Borough Council and the people of Maidstone at the extremely sad news that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has passed away and is extending his deepest sympathy, thoughts and prayers to the Royal Family.
