Cobtree Park, managed by Maidstone Borough Council, is calling for would-be gardeners to help form a brand-new volunteer gardening group.

The March Planting and Meadow Making Days are being held on Tuesday 19th and Tuesday 26th March between 10am and 2pm. Around twenty willing helpers are needed to plant, shape and create a wildflower bund and pictorial meadow, which will include preparing the soil, planting and sowing a wildflower mix.

Park Manager Lizzie Buckingham said: “‘Introducing meadow areas is so important for pollinating insects, which have seen a drastic decline recently. Everyone is welcome and they don’t have to have a knowledge of gardening – if they just have a few hours to volunteer, get their hands dirty and be involved we would love to see them.

“At Cobtree Park we want to encourage visitors to the park, particularly younger ones, to learn about insects, flowers and wildlife. We’ll also be holding a Bio Blitz for this purpose and continue the work later in the year.”

Members of the volunteer group don’t need experience, but must bring enthusiasm, a willingness to learn and sensible shoes.

Anyone who would like to take part can register their interest by calling 01622 715702 or by emailing:  info@cobtreemanorpark.co.uk
