Maidstone Borough Council (MBC) has officially opened a new outdoor children’s play area in the village of Ulcombe.
The new and improved facilities cost approximately £20,000 and was part funded by MBC which provided a grant of £10,000 which formed part of the Strategically Important Play Area (SIPA) parish grant scheme, whereby Ulcombe Parish Council secured match funding from Kent County Fields Association and Kent County Council.
The Mayor of Maidstone, Cllr David Naghi, unveiled the new play facilities at a celebration attended by local parents and their children, along with Cllrs Shellina Prendergast and Cllr Martin Round who represent the ward of Headcorn.
After the ceremony Cllr Naghi said:
“I was delighted to open this revamped new play area in Ulcombe Village. It’s a fantastic facility for the local area and I am sure that the facilities will be enjoyed by those in the local community for years to come.”
MBC has invested circa £1.8 million in the improvement of Strategically Important Play Areas over the last few years, including a one-off amount of £200,000 for the parish grant scheme, whereby parish councils could subsidise capital costs for the upgrade and refurbishment of SIPA within their area.
The Mayor added:
“The new play area at Ulcombe is a resource which can be enjoyed by everyone and is a great addition to sit alongside the Borough’s fantastic public parks, which have won national acclaim and awards for their high environmental standards, impeccable maintenance and excellent visitor attractions. This is a very good example of the Council and the local people coming together to make change happen for the better.”
