Maidstone Borough Council is calling on residents to help improve recycling in the borough by taking part in National Recycling Week from 23 to 29 September.

The Recycling team in the Council is encouraging households to recycle right and recycle often and will be out and about during the week with their recycling trailer, helping to educate residents on what can be recycled.

On Monday 23 September they will be in Jubilee Square, Maidstone from 9am to 2pm and on Wednesday 25 September at Tesco, Grove Green, from 8.30am to 2pm.

Now in its 17th year, Recycle Week is a celebration of recycling, aimed at encouraging the public to recycle more, by demonstrating the benefits of recycling items from all around the home. The theme for this year is ‘Recycling. It’s in our hands.’

Waste Manager at Maidstone Borough Council Graham Gosden said:

“Our recycling rates in the borough are over 52%, which compares well with the rest the UK.  However our aim is for residents to recycle up to 60% of their rubbish. National Recycling Week is the perfect opportunity to get the message across and try to make more people think twice when they go to throw something into the black bin instead of recycling it.”

Maidstone Borough Council recycling team offer a specialist recycling information service, where they endeavour to answer most questions and queries, the service can be accessed by emailing recycling@maidstone.gov.uk
