Maidstone Borough Council is calling all businesses that had to close from 5 November until 2 December 2020 as part of the national lockdown and are registered for business rates to apply for a ‘Local Restrictions Support Grant’ as it’s not too late.

Although Maidstone is now out of national lockdown and instead in Tier 3, any business who has not already applied is still able to do so.

The Council will be contacting those businesses who did apply and need to remain closed under the tier 3 restrictions by email to arrange for ongoing support whilst the restrictions continue to apply.

Stephen McGinnes, Mid Kent Services Director at Maidstone Borough Council said:

“Whilst there is a range of support available to businesses, the Local Restriction Grant is specifically aimed at helping those businesses required to close and given that it doesn’t have to be repaid, it’s important that businesses check to see whether they qualify and don’t miss out.

“So far, £1.1million has been claimed from 663 local businesses out of a possible £2.4million."

Businesses required to close in England will be eligible for the following:

  • For properties with a rateable value of £15k or under, grants to be £1,334 per month, or £667 per two weeks;
  • For properties with a rateable value of between £15k-£51k grants to be £2,000 per month, or £1,000 per two weeks;
  • For properties with a rateable value of £51k or over grants to be £3,000 per month, or £1,500 per two weeks.
