Vinters Park Crematorium, owned and run by Maidstone Borough Council, is making some changes to funeral services in line with government guidance introduced around social distancing.

The new guidance aims to reduce the amount of people attending funerals, therefore the crematorium is asking that only close family members attend.

To reduce the chances of cross contamination hymn books have been removed from the Chapel and the curtains will be closing after the committal so mourners won’t be able to touch the coffin when they leave.

Webcasting is still available and requests for this have gone up. Services can be recorded and families can have a copy sent to them for a small fee.

Sharon Smith, Bereavement Services Manager at Maidstone Borough Council said:

“We appreciate how difficult it is to not come to a funeral of a close friend or family member but personal safety must be paramount at this difficult time.”

“We are pleased that mourners do appear to be following government guidance and are staying away from funerals.  The numbers attending have certainly dropped.”
