Maidstone Borough Council’s Planning Committee is asking people who have an interest in the planning applications to be discussed at the forthcoming remote meeting, scheduled to be held on Thursday 21 May, 2020 to submit their representations to be read out by an MBC Officer or Ward Member.

There may be three representations per application.* These will be allocated on a first-come, first served basis and will be read to the Committee allowing everyone to have their voice heard during the meeting and to avoid possible technical issues.

New legislation and government regulations allow committee meetings to be held remotely enabling MBC to resume some meetings. Council officers have been working hard on technology arrangements on how meetings will be conducted and facilitated to enable those to be restored.

Alison Broom, Chief Executive of Maidstone Borough Council said:

“We are living through some of the most unusual times in our lives. The Council is trying its best and learning all the time by holding remote meetings to allow everyone to have their voice heard whilst endeavouring to progress Council business through the use of technology.

“We have been working with our Committee Chairs and Vice Chairs to continue with meetings held remotely to ensure that the important decision-making functions of the Council continue.”

“With the utmost respect to the current situation and the great tragedy of the many lives lost to Coronavirus we do need to look ahead for a time when we are no longer in a lockdown situation, therefore it is imperative for us to be able to take council decisions.”

The MBC Planning Committee Meeting is scheduled to be webcast on the MBC YouTube Channel and can be viewed via the Council website: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCYEJWAXtiN3smyu0FIAJdAw
