Following the latest government guidance published around ‘staying safe outside your home’, Maidstone Borough Council (MBC) is reminding people that some restrictions remain in place when they are visiting parks across the borough.

The latest guidance which will take effect from today, Wednesday 13 May, is for people using public spaces, outdoor spaces and taking exercise, and outlines the changes to what we can do.

MBC Director of Regeneration and Place, William Cornall said:

“It is important that we all appreciate that whilst some of the restrictions to visiting parks have been lifted, we should all continue to follow government guidelines.

“However, given these changes, we are pleased to reopen the car parks within our parks, but for the time being the children’s play areas will remain closed, as will the cafeterias and public toilets too. We would like thank everyone who has helped us to keep the borough safe and encourage them all to continue to do so.”

The government guidelines state that there are now a limited number of additional activities you can do whilst following social distancing guidelines:

  • Spend time outdoors, for example sitting and enjoying the fresh air, picnicking, or sunbathing.
  • Meet one other person from a different household outdoors.
  • Exercise outdoors as often as you wish.
  • Use outdoor sports courts or facilities, such as a tennis or basketball court, or golf course with members of your household, or one other person.
