Maidstone Borough Council has revamped its Building Control Department to enhance the way it operates and make the online process more efficient and user friendly.

The Building Control team are all professional, highly experienced, surveyors.

With excellent local knowledge and a thorough understanding of the way the council works, they provide a competitively priced service to anyone needing help and advice when carrying out building works.

They have made considerable improvements to their processes and procedures and Maidstone Borough Council’s website has been updated with a suite of online forms created to provide more accessible services available 24 hours a day.

William Cornall, Director of Regeneration and Place at Maidstone Borough Council said:

“Building Control is a specialist regulatory body within all Local Authorities; they inspect the structure and design of any new build properties as well as any alterations to existing buildings. They work with the developers and builders to help them achieve full compliance with the building regulations on every type of building.

“The UK has some of the highest building standards in the world which now include many in relation to helping build more energy efficient homes and achieving the UK’s target of being carbon zero by 2050.

“The Building Control Team have just achieved ISO 9001:2015 certification, one of only 200 Councils to be accredited to date. This is a quality management system standard which helps them build closer relationships with their customers and ultimately better satisfy their needs. The accredited team has strong and established links with Maidstone Planning Service, Kent County Council, as well as the various utility companies, and fully understand the local issues and restrictions which means they can react knowledgably and quickly, saving time and money.”

“Maidstone Building Control provide expertise and true impartiality, priding themselves on not compromising the quality of service in order to deliver a transparent and value for money service. There are no hidden costs, the service is non-profit making. As a local authority we have to be transparent, so the service is fairly priced compared to other Building Control Bodies.”

Robert Wiseman, Building Control Team Manager at Maidstone Borough Council said:

“The team are keen to grow our service and help new and existing clients achieve ever-greater quality in their construction projects. We will soon be introducing mobile working so we can work from anywhere, providing an even more efficient and paperless service.”
