Work has started on a larger new children’s play area in Parkwood Recreation Ground organised by Maidstone Borough Council.

It should take around six weeks to complete the play area which will provide a four metre high climbing net, basket swing and new multi-play unit for juniors. Along with a new toddler swing, play unit with a slide, spring toy and spinning bowl.

The play area will be extended, new railings and gates installed with new surfacing laid under all the equipment. Some of the existing equipment will be retained and refurbished.

William Cornall, Director of Regeneration and Place at Maidstone Borough Council said:

“This wonderful new play area will be bigger and have equipment for toddlers and juniors. It is designated as a Strategically Important Play Area and we know it is very popular with the local community.

“Funding from Planning Agreements relating to several new residential developments in the area has made it possible to improve these facilities. Where funding is available we are refurbishing existing play areas or improving the facilities. Over the last ten months we have installed additional equipment at Giddyhorn Lane Recreation Ground, Foley Park and Lockham Farm Avenue play areas.

“Weather permitting the new play area should reopen just before Christmas.”

The contract was awarded to KOMPAN UK Ltd and the equipment is being installed by a local company M&M Contractors from Maidstone.
