Swift intervention has been undertaken by the Maidstone Borough Council Community Protection Team in relation to a pet shop in Maidstone.

After being alerted to welfare concerns within Maidstone Aquatics about the rabbits they were selling the Animal Licensing Inspector conducted an inspection with a veterinarian on 24 August. As a result of this inspection the operator is now working with them to correct the issues identified.

Community Protection Manager at Maidstone Borough Council, Martyn Jeynes said:

“It is our duty to act if we hear about animal welfare issues and in this instance we acted as quickly as possible.

“We will always try and work with traders to encourage best practice and will let them know about the legal standards that are required when anyone is selling animals.”
