Don’t block roads urges Maidstone Borough Council image

Maidstone Borough Council (MBC) is urging residents to move any parked vehicles that are blocking roads which might stop refuse or emergency vehicles getting through and gaining access.

MBC collects refuse from 17,000 households every day across the borough of Maidstone and poorly parked vehicles have affected collection services.

Graham Gosden, Waste Manager at Maidstone Borough Council said:

“Vehicles parked irresponsibly blocking roads is one of the biggest problems for our contractor trying to collect people’s rubbish. There have been times when over 300 properties have had delayed collections which is a huge issue for the residents affected.

“Any extra time we have to take trying to get down a street delays the collections and has a knock-on effect to all roads scheduled that day.

“We understand there are more vehicles parked as people are being asked to work from home. However, even if parking is difficult where you live can we ask everyone to please park sensibly away from junctions on your normal day of collection, until the crew have collected from you and your neighbours.

“If our waste vehicles can’t get through then it is likely an emergency vehicle wouldn’t be able to either. Please consider how you park.”
