The programme is designed to help businesses of all sizes improve staff health, safety and productivity, as well as increase their organisation’s appeal. Businesses must complete a minimum of ten pledges to become a healthy workplace and achieve a bronze award.
The Business Terrace is MBC’s growth accelerator, providing a new generation of flexible workplace to help businesses start, grow and thrive. As part of the award, its pledges include carrying out a health needs assessment, regular risk assessments, ensuring a workplace that supports good health and wellbeing, and providing all staff with adequate health and safety training and one-to-ones, to name a few. The team is now focused on working towards the silver award.
Businesses involved with the programme can receive training and support to make positive changes to workplace environments, and address issues such as staff retention, sickness absence and productivity. To encourage other Maidstone businesses to take part in the scheme, The Business Terrace is teaming up with Kent & Medway Healthy Workplace to host a virtual coffee morning in June. Participants will find out why being healthy at work is key to their business and hear about the local support available in Kent.
John Foster, MBC’s Head of Regeneration and Economic Development explains the significance of the award:
“Good health is the foundation for happiness and success in all areas of life. A healthier workforce will perform better and be more productive.“As well as our own staff, we have a variety of businesses here at The Business Terrace. Creating an environment that supports everyone’s wellbeing enables them to thrive both personally and professionally. That’s why we’re proud to have made the first step in this awards scheme.
“I would urge other businesses to join the virtual coffee morning and find out how the programme can help them and their staff.”
Michelle Saunders, Workplace Health Officer adds:
“We’ve worked with a number of businesses and seen the difference that a healthy workplace makes to an organisation. It’s great to be offering this service to businesses in Maidstone and beyond.”
The virtual coffee morning takes place on Wednesday 9 June at 12pm via Microsoft Teams. Click here to book a space.
