Santa is choosing the Lockmeadow Entertainment Centre to host Maidstone’s biggest post box ahead of Christmas to ensure that all the children’s letters get to North Pole in time.

The bright red giant post box will feature next to the new Love Food @ Lockmeadow food hall and will be open for letters to be posted from this Saturday 27 November at 11am when the Mayor of Maidstone, Cllr Fay Gooch will be joined by Santa himself to welcome the first visitors to write and post their letters. Children visiting Lockmeadow will be able to write their letter, send it and receive a reply before Christmas. The post box has a special super-fast route directly to the North Pole where letters will magically arrive with replies delivered to the Lockmeadow entertainment centre for children to collect.

Santa’s post box and the letter delivery service is free for children to use, but all the letters must be written at Lockmeadow to ensure they are delivered and responded to before the big day. There will also be a free trail at the centre for children to take part in to find the missing letters and help one of Santa’s elves get back to the North Pole in time for Christmas Eve.

Mayor of Maidstone, Cllr Fay Gooch who will be opening the post box on Saturday, said:

“Santa’s Post Box had been planned and ready last year at Lockmeadow but we then went into a second national Covid lockdown and we were unable to host the event which was so disappointing for children.  We are delighted to be able to offer this special Christmas postal service for all children to enjoy this year.

“We hope that events like this will help bring the families of Maidstone some good cheer with this free event and be a part of bringing the Christmas magic back to our County Town this year.”

The giant post box will be opened on Saturday by the Mayor and will take posted letters on the 27th/28th November and the 4th/5th December (10am – 4pm). Replies from Santa will get posted back at Lockmeadow one week later pinned to a Christmas tree. The letters will be available for collection up until 20th December.

The free Christmas trail will take children around the Lockmeadow entertainment centre looking for clues with a ‘small treat’ prize at the end.
