Hot on the heels of the huge success of Elmer's Big Heart of Kent Parade in Maidstone town centre last summer, MBC is delighted to announce that it will be taking this colourful character out on tour to some of the rural communities in the borough over the coming months.

Maidstone Borough Council (MBC) supported the Heart of Kent Hospice initiative last year as the official Heritage Partner of the public art trail and sponsored two of the elephant sculptures.  The Council was later gifted it’s very own Elmer ‘Maidstone Map’ sculpture, which has been welcoming visitors to the Museum over the last six months, but he is now ready to pack up his trunk and set off on his own adventure.

For anyone who was unable to travel into the town to take part in the art trail, or for those who would like to have another chance to see Elmer up close again, the Council will be bringing him to the following locations this summer:

  • Lenham: 9th May - 3rd June
  • Staplehurst: 6th June - 1st July
  • Shepway: 4th - 29th July
  • Coxheath: 1st - 12th August
  • Marden: 15th - 26th August
  • Headcorn: 29th August - 9th September
  • Yalding: 12th September - 7th October

The MBC Elmer will be looked after by the local library in each tour location, and the Council will be offering a free drop-in arts and crafts workshop in several places too. Workshops will be held in Lenham, Staplehurst, Shepway and Yalding, where young visitors will have the chance to make a colourful decoration inspired by Elmer and his friends.
