Maidstone Borough Council (MBC) has teamed up with Coolings Garden Centre in Bearsted and Leeds Castle to run the competition, which is open for entries from today, Thursday 21 April and closes Friday 1 July. Judges will then start inspecting all gardens, pots or allotments from 4 July.
There are lots of categories and entries are welcomed from residents, businesses and community groups. Anyone entering will be given a £5 voucher to spend at Coolings.
As Turkey Mill were the winners of the Best Commercial garden last year, Mayor of Maidstone, Cllr Fay Gooch visited them to see their stunning gardens for herself, Fay was also invited to plant a Royal Jubilee rose in honour of her visit, she said:
What an absolute privilege to meet last year’s winners and see these beautiful gardens. It is such an honour to be able to plant a rose bush too, a fantastic Royal Jubilee one to mark this very special Jubilee year and particularly today – her Majesty the Queen’s 96th Birthday.
I would love to see as many businesses as possible to enter the Maidstone in Bloom competition this year as flowers really help to increase biodiversity and wildlife, as well as brighten up the areas we live and work in. There are so many categories, not forgetting the special Platinum Jubilee one this year so why not have a go.
The Maidstone Borough in Bloom categories are:
