Maidstone Borough Council (MBC) is getting set to pay out a one off payment of £150 to all households with properties in Council Tax bands A to D in April. The direct government payment is aimed at assisting with the increase in energy costs.

In order to speed up the process and make it easier to receive this money The Council is calling on anyone in these council tax bands to sign up to pay by Direct Debit if they do not already pay in this way.

The Council will have the details of those residents already signed up to pay their council tax by Direct Debit and if eligible, they will not need to do anything.

Leader of Maidstone Borough Council Cllr David Burton said:

“We know many, many people will be affected by the increase in energy bills and this £150 will go some way to helping. It is government money and as a borough council we are being asked to make sure everyone who is entitled to it, receives it.”

MBC is currently waiting for guidance from the Government about how to make payments to those who don’t pay by Direct Debit. Second Homes do not qualify for this payment.
