News Apply before 31 July for Energy Rebate Scheme

Apply before 31 July for Energy Rebate Scheme image

Maidstone Borough Council is urging anyone who hasn’t yet applied for the £150 government’s energy rebate to do so before Sunday 31 July when applications close.

The £150 payment is for those living in properties in Council Tax bands A to D to help with increasing energy costs. MBC has been making payments since April for those who pay by direct debit or have completed an application online. The Council has been asking residents who did not receive the payment automatically to come forward and make an application via the website.

Cllr Simon Webb, Maidstone Borough Council Lead Member for Housing and Health commented:

“If you know anyone who hasn’t yet had the payment, please ask them to apply before the deadline at the end of July.”
“Our Energy Rebate Team has been working incredibly hard to make sure as many people as possible have received this rebate, making payments to more than 43,800 households already, however, we know there are around 8,200 who still need to apply. We really would like them to apply.”

The government recognises some people living in higher Council Tax banded properties may also suffer from fuel poverty. Those people living in a band E-H property may be eligible for a discretionary payment to help with their energy bills. Further details regarding this scheme will be published on the website shortly.

The Council is asking all residents to be mindful of unsolicited scam calls about the rebate. MBC will not phone you to take any payments or bank details linked to this scheme. If in doubt, please contact the customer service team on 01622 602000. Alternatively, you can email general queries to energyrebates@midkent.gov.uk.

To apply now please visit the MBC website Council Tax Energy Rebate page:

This energy rebate is helping to achieve The Council’s Homes and Communities priority within the MBC Strategic Plan to have a place that people love and where they can afford to live.
