Residents of Maidstone joined the Mayor for Afternoon Tea today – Wednesday 1 June, as part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in the town.

Maidstone Borough Council (MBC) invited local people born in 1952 to apply for a pair of free tickets to be part of the Jubilee events being held in the borough so that they could enjoy an afternoon celebrating their 70th Birthday year along with the Mayor – Cllr Derek Mortimer.

The special event was held for 200 people as part of the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty The Queen where traditional Afternoon Tea was served in a marquee on Jubilee Square.

To commemorate Her Majesty The Queen’s 70 years on the throne, the Mayor of Maidstone hosted the special occasion. Cllr Mortimer said:

“I am absolutely thrilled to be joined by so many amazing people from Maidstone to commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. It was a brilliant way for them to celebrate their own special year along with their guests and I felt honoured to have shared the day with them and wish them all a very Happy Birthday!”

The Mayoral Afternoon Tea is just one of the many events being held across the borough of Maidstone as part of the Jubilee weekend.  Others include Maidstone Museum ‘Make It’ themed craft sessions for children, a Family Fun Day at Lockmeadow and entertainment in the town centre with One Maidstone hosting a Bubblologist, Royal Guards and cleaners who will clean the floor whilst performing a full dance routine round their mops.

“I am delighted to see and hear about so many different events that are being held as part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in Maidstone that will make the weekend one to really come together and enjoy.”
