Maidstone Borough Council (MBC) has paid a total of £5.3 million to 35,500 Council Tax payers accounts as part of the government’s £150 rebate payment to help residents with rising energy costs.

The one off payment has gone to those who currently pay by Direct Debit and live in properties in Council Tax bands A to D.

Anyone who pays by direct debit and has not yet received a payment will be able to complete an application form on the MBC website: www.maidstone.gov.uk

Those people who do not pay by Direct Debit will receive a letter during May with further information about how to complete the online application form. The Council will not phone or text people for this information and they don’t need to contact MBC in the meantime.

The government recognises some people living in higher Council Tax band properties may also suffer from fuel poverty. Those people living in a band E-H property may be eligible for a discretionary payment to help with their energy bills. The Council will be updating the webpage with more information about these payments once this has been agreed. MBC will be making the payments automatically where possible.

The Council is asking all residents to be mindful of scam calls about the rebate, MBC will not phone you to take any payment or bank details linked to this payment and won't ask for any other personal information. If in doubt please contact the benefits team on 01622 602557.

The online application form is available on the MBC website through the following link: https://maidstone.gov.uk/home/primary-services/council-tax/primary-areas/council-tax-rebate
