Maidstone Borough Council (MBC) is supporting Start Up September. An entire month dedicated to celebrating new businesses and supporting residents to kickstart their new business venture.

Start Up September is an annual event which highlights the resources available for aspiring entrepreneurs.

MBC is working with the Maidstone Business Boost Team and will be providing numerous workshops, seminars and support sessions to assist budding business people in the borough with setting up. All events are free to attend and will be hosted across both The Business Terrace and Maidstone Innovation Centre as well as online workshops from Council partners.

Cllr Paul Cooper, MBC Cabinet Member for Planning, Infrastructure and Economic Development said:

Maidstone is home to over 8,000 thriving businesses and we as a Council are always keen to support entrepreneurs setting up in the borough.

Start Up September is a great initiative and MBC is delighted to support it with free events throughout the month which will give our residents so much information and provide them with opportunities to learn what it takes to make a business successful.

Small Businesses are crucial in our economy and being able to showcase what support is available to all, is great to see.

Start Up September will conclude with a flagship event for the Council, The Maidstone Business Boost Start Up Workshop.  Being held on Thursday 28September the all-day workshop at The Maidstone Business Terrace, will include free sessions for local business experts in accounting, business planning, marketing and social media.

The Business Terrace is MBC’s growth accelerator, providing high-quality flexible workspace to help businesses start, grow and thrive. Based in the heart of Maidstone, The Terrace brings together like-minded individuals who influence, inspire and energise one-another. Inside, you’ll find more than 7,000ft² of office space, coworking desks, and meeting rooms.

MBC is also working with partner organisations NatWest & Let’s Do Business Group who will be providing events both at The Business Terrace and online, open to all new businesses across Maidstone.

The Council hosted over 40 in-person business support events since the end of the pandemic, ranging from business skills workshops to open networking events.

Maidstone saw the largest growth in new enterprises across Kent in 2022, a rise of over 4%. The borough has the highest business survival rates in Kent, with over 68% of new enterprises surviving over 3 years. This has increased 8% since 2019 and is above the national average.[1]
