Maidstone Borough Council (MBC) has refurbished two playgrounds in Barming, Maidstone, improving the equipment and areas for youngsters.

At Freshland Road Play Area the Council has installed a spring seesaw with a sturdy back and foot support allowing youngsters of all abilities to play together. The seat at the other end is large enough for parents and carers to sit and play with their children. As part of these works repairs have been made to the rubber surfacing under other play items.

Tarragon Road Play Area now has an Octopus seesaw. Sturdy hand and foot supports and the spring base, allow for gentle or wild rocking, depending on the child's energy level and confidence.

A new surface has been laid under the table tennis table which was originally on grass so that it can be used all year round. Friends and families can bring bats and balls along to enjoy a game of Ping-Pong together.

Cllr Patrik Garten, Cabinet Member for Environmental Services at MBC said:

"These playgrounds look so much better, and this wonderful new equipment gives local children the opportunity to get outside, get active and have some fun.  Not only do the updates improve the offer in those areas but also give us assurance that the new equipment is safe to play and complies with the latest safety standards."

Funding to improve these facilities is from a Planning Agreement relating to a new residential development in the locality.
