The Maidstone Innovation Centre (MIC) building has won ‘Best Architectural Design’ as part of the South East Construction Awards.

Maidstone Innovation Centre is a Maidstone Borough Council (MBC) initiative, which was part funded by the European Regional Development Fund 2014-2020 and offers state of the art facilities with flexible working space, offices, meeting rooms and conference facilities. Part of the Kent Medical Campus, it is aimed at businesses working in the life science, healthcare and medical sectors.

The award was given to MBC, Bond Bryan Architects Ltd and Rydon Construction Ltd for the work on the MIC, recognising those projects which have been designed in sympathy with their local environment, are innovative, fit for purpose and have achieved practical completion during the previous year. It also awards those projects which have achieved an outstanding standard of work, timely completion and are within budget.

Cllr Paul Cooper, Cabinet Member for Planning, Infrastructure and Economic Development at MBC said:

“I am really thrilled that our very own Maidstone Innovation Centre has won this category for the whole of the South East. It really is a stunning innovative building and we have worked very hard to make sure it fits in well with the local environment. It is a great place to work and we welcome any businesses looking to rent space who work in the life science, healthcare and medical sectors, why not come and have a look around.”

Zubin Masters, Director at Bond Bryan said:

“We are incredibly proud of the recently completed Maidstone Innovation Centre on the Kent Medical Campus for MBC. We are delighted to have won the Best Architectural Design and to be a finalist in the Best Construction Project category at the South East Construction Awards 2023. We believe this highly sustainable building is a case study in the future of workplaces – simple yet distinctive; sustainable and practical yet beautiful.

“The success of this scheme, designed and delivered through the pandemic, is down to a genuine collaborative partnership between Maidstone Borough Council, the Design Team and the Main Contractor Rydon Construction.”
