Lockmeadow Entertainment Centre is about to step into another realm with the announcement of a new Virtual Reality World opening this August.

VR World is currently being fitted out downstairs at Lockmeadow into the old Burger King unit within the complex.

Cllr Claudine Russell, Lead Member for Communities, Leisure and Arts at Maidstone Borough Council said:

“In November 2019, the Council purchased the lease for Lockmeadow Entertainment Complex as part of our commitment to deliver a vibrant leisure and culture offer which is enjoyed by residents and attractive to visitors. This great new VR World will be a fantastic addition to Lockmeadow, helping us deliver on this.”

Business owner Ed Walter is not new to business in Maidstone and is already a director of Ted Alert, The Smarter Energy Group and My Electrics in the High Street.  After spotting a gap in the market for Kent and Virtual Reality fun, Ed looked into commercial space and Lockmeadow fit the business plan perfectly. Ed says:

“We are really excited about opening Maidstone’s only Virtual Reality world and will be providing an exciting experience for all ages to enjoy.

“After much research, I’ve selected the games and pods that will suit most ages to provide an immersive escape that will tap into all senses and take the user into another exciting world. All together there will be more than 100 experiences to choose from amongst the 7 games units that will be in VR World.

“You don’t have to pre-book or stick to a time slot, you can come along and play just one game if you want, or continue onto other machines. We’ve made the offering really flexible, so if a family are having a quick bite to eat before a movie and have a spare 15 minutes, they can enjoy one of our VR experiences.”

The new unit is hoping to also provide employment for up to six people and launch within the summer holidays – bringing an extra dimension to days out in Maidstone. Visit the VR website for more information: https://www.vr-world.co.uk
