Free hire of Mote Hall at Leisure Centre up for grabs! image

Maidstone Borough Council (MBC) in conjunction with Maidstone Leisure Trust, is offering free hire of Mote Hall at the Leisure Centre to three community groups or charities in the borough during 2023/2024.

Local Community Groups and charities who have an event coming up between 1 May 2023 and 31 March 2024 are being invited to submit an application to hire the hall on one occasion for free.  Interested groups should apply to MBC by midnight on Friday 7 April 2023.

Any groups who successfully complete the application process and meet the necessary criteria will be considered for the offer. Interested parties can apply online by going to: Mote Hall Free Hire Application

Mote Hall is the main sports hall inside the Maidstone Leisure Centre.  It seats up to 1,200 people or up to 1,000 standing with a stage and can cost up to £2,100 to hire.

(Please note - the free let only covers the cost of hire for Mote Hall; additional costs for staffing, set up and down, equipment, lighting, sound and other costs will still be chargeable.)

Cllr Claudine Russell, Lead Member for Leisure and Arts at Maidstone Borough Council said:

Mote Hall is a great venue for a big event. This offer is part of our work to support local community groups and charities. It is something we have offered for a number of years now and has proved very successful.

We will be considering all applications against the criteria and those that are successful will be notified week beginning 17 April. I would encourage any groups that meet the necessary criteria to apply as soon as possible.

Priority will be given to groups which fall into any of the following categories:

  • Sporting or cultural events
  • Events which are unlikely to go ahead without the free hire
  • Not-for-profit events
  • Events which support young people and other target groups
  • Organisations which have not previously been granted a free hire

Full details about how to submit your application can be found on the Council’s website at

Homes and Communities is one of the priorities of Maidstone Borough Council and this project reflects that.
