Two new food units have opened in Lockmeadow in the street food collection at Love Food offering chicken wings and Indian street food.

‘We are Chicken’ serving crispy fried chicken, and ‘Madras Street Food’ are now open at Love Food @ Lockmeadow.  The leisure complex is already home to three of Maidstone’s top-rated restaurants on Trip Advisor; with Funky Feast as number one, Notorious BRG at two and the coffee shop Flour Power which is run by Maidstone’s number one bakery also on Trip Advisor.

Cllr Claudine Russell, Lead Member for Leisure and Arts at Maidstone Borough Council said:

It is good to see that new start-up businesses can use Love Food as their first food outlet and that the street food units at the leisure complex remain full and all with five-star scores on the doors.

They all have their own innovative ideas to keep growing along with a great culture of collaboration with their local community in mind. Lockmeadow has hosted a number of cultural events across this past year and the tenants are keen to get involved with new ideas to keep the entertainment centre relevant for Maidstone residents and visitors.

Love Food @ Lockmeadow opened in November 2021 selling global inspired street food from local independent businesses. It is situated in the ideal location for visitors of the ODEON cinema and families heading to and from Gravity or Hollywood Bowl.

We Are Chicken is the second business at the centre for Notorious BRG in a collaboration with the previous owner The Kent Drinks Company. Business owner Jonny Wall added:

We have mastered burgers at BRG and hit the number one spot for restaurants in Maidstone on TripAdvisor and are excited to look at a different business model based around chicken wings, wraps and things.

We’ll still promise the level of quality you would expect but in a more casual format – imagine a traditional chicken wing joint but done really well.

The second unit to open is Madras Street Food – born in a Maidstone domestic kitchen during lockdown.

Owner Arul Kumar, a chef by profession started to run his own take-away business (Madras Takeaway) during lockdown specialising in the Authentic Curry, Indian breakfast Idly, Dosa from his kitchen at home. He soon gained a loyal following with great reviews of his authentic dishes.

Arul said:

I am very excited to be part of Love Food @ Lockmeadow. It will be the first restaurant to offer the traditional Indian breakfast called idly, Dosa in Maidstone, which in my opinion is the best breakfast in the world.

The dish is made from a steamed rice cake and lentils, this was very popular during lockdown, and I built up a very loyal customer base, I hope that they will follow me to Lockmeadow. I would love to treat Lockmeadow visitors with our delicious Indian dishes that I believe won’t be available in any Indian outlets in Maidstone.
