Maidstone Borough Council (MBC) has announced the results of the 2023 Borough Council Election’s after residents took to the polls across the borough yesterday – Thursday 4 May, to cast their votes on Maidstone’s 18 available election seats.

The count – which took place today – Friday 5 May, revealed that 29,822 (29.9%) of eligible voters across Maidstone turned out to have their say at the local elections.

The Borough Council results were announced at the Detling Show Ground, Maidstone where the following candidates were duly elected to represent the following wards:

  • Allington – Cynthia Robertson – Liberal Democrat – 923
  • Bearsted – Val Springett – Conservative – 1,204
  • Boxley – Vanessa Jones – Independent – 1,012
  • Coxheath and Hunton – James Reid –Conservative – 788
  • Detling & Thurnham – Stephen Thompson – Green – 485
  • Downswood & Otham –Gordon Newton – Independent - 510
  • East – David Naghi – Liberal Democrat – 1,051
  • Fant – Margaret Rose – Labour – 760
  • Harrietsham & Lenham – Tom Sams – Independent - 1,296
  • High Street –Dinesh Khadka –Liberal Democrat – 641
  • Leeds – Gill Fort – Conservative – 389
  • Loose – Susan Grigg – Independent - 236
  • Marden & Yalding –Annabelle Blackmore - Conservative – 1,005
  • North – Michael Thompson – Liberal Democrat – 930
  • Shepway North – Joanna Wilkinson – Labour - 602
  • South – Brian Clark – Liberal Democrat – 1,153
  • Staplehurst – Paddy Riordan – Conservative – 942
  • Sutton Valence & Langley – Derek Eagle – Green – 398

There are 55 MBC Councillors in total which are now as follows:

Conservative - 24

Liberal Democrats - 12

Independent  - 10

Labour – 6

Green - 3

There was also an election of Parish Councillors for Tovil Parish held yesterday with candidates; Alison Chew, Clive English, Tony Hemsted, Abigail Hogg, Mike Hogg, Susan Hogg, Mark Jess, Eileen Lewis, Derek Mortimer, Alan Smith, Paul Wilby, being duly elected.
