Maidstone town centre will welcome a host of bright and colourful scarecrows again this half term as local schools and community groups have been busy creating them based on the theme of ‘Musical Legends’.

The scarecrow trail has been organised by Maidstone Borough Council and prizes are on offer to the best school and community group. Everyone is being encouraged to help decide the winners by voting for their favourite in each category. A QR code will be provided with each scarecrow to place a vote online.

Scarecrows will be on display from Saturday 21 October through to Sunday 29 October at Fremlin Walk, The Mall, Royal Star Arcade and other businesses around the town centre. See how many you can find and vote for your favourite. Voting closes on Sunday 29 October.

Cllr Claudine Russell, Lead Member for Communities, Leisure and Arts at MBC said:

“We are delighted to be able to offer this free fun activity for everyone to enjoy again this year. The scarecrows will be dressed as musical legends so it will be great to see what characters the schools and community groups come up with and how they dress them. You can even make your own scarecrow as part of a craft activity too.”

Pay a visit to Lockmeadow to see Jack – King of the Scarecrows, and his friends, throughout the half term week. Then enjoy a free ‘make your own scarecrow’ craft activity from 10am – 2pm on Sunday 29 October. No need to book, just come along and have a go!

Maidstone Museum is also offering spooky craft sessions from 24 to 26 October for children to make a witch or wizard hat, a flying ghost kite and a hanging pumpkin. Then on Friday 27 October there will be a special SEND friendly session for families with SEND children and their siblings, also with a Halloween theme. Please see the museum website for booking and further details on all these activities: https://museum.maidstone.gov.uk/whats-on/events/october-half-term-2023/
