Artists of all ages are being encouraged to enter the Mote Park Art Competition before it closes on Friday 22 September.

The competition is being run by Maidstone Borough Council (MBC) and is looking for original artworks that celebrate the stunning park.

Artworks need to be inspired by Mote Park and can be in any medium including paints, pencils, sculpture, textiles, etc, however photography will not be accepted.

The competition is open to any age and there will be prizes for two categories: under 18s and over 18s.

Cllr Claudine Russell, Cabinet Member for Communities, Leisure and Arts at MBC said:

“This is the last chance to enter our new competition, we would really encourage anyone who loves to create artworks to enter. We are particularly keen to have more entries from young people. I’m really looking forward to seeing the amazing works of art.”

Guest judge Cas Holmes, a local artist who trained in fine arts at the University of Creative Arts works on a variety of projects and commissions and is a senior tutor at West Dean College, Cas said:

“Mote Park's name comes from the Old English word moot, meaning ‘meeting place’. The park is a much loved and popular meeting place sitting in the heart of Maidstone. I spend much of my time walking or cycling in the park and drawing. I am looking forward to seeing how the artwork captures this lovely space and what happens in it and more importantly, what it means to people in this first ever Mote Park competition.”

There will be a special preview event for those selected to exhibit on Saturday 21 October 2023 when the overall winners of the competition will also be announced. The exhibition will then be open to the public and free to visit. Up to 10 entries from each category will be selected to feature in a special exhibition which will be held in the new Mote Park Learning Space between 23 October to 3 November 2023.

The competition closes on 22 September 2023, full details of how to enter can be found at https://arts.maidstone.gov.uk/mote-park-art
