Residents are invited to come along with items that could be repaired including toys, jewellery, electricals, clothing, textiles, furniture, wooden objects, bicycle maintenance, computers and IT equipment. Booking isn’t required and people can just turn up on the day and take part.
The project is supported by Maidstone Borough Council (MBC). Cabinet Member for Climate Transition and Nature Recovery, Cllr Mike Summersgill said:
The Repair Café is a fantastic initiative which the Council is delighted to support. It is good to know that so many items that could potentially end up in landfill are being repaired and restored at the cafe, which is great news for the environment, reduces the amount of stuff that is thrown away and can save people money at the same time.
The Maidstone Repair Cafe is run by volunteers who make up an excellent and enthusiastic team. They are always looking for new volunteers to help repair even more items and reduce the volume of items which would be thrown away.
Repair Cafes are free meeting places and they’re about mending things together. Visitors bring their broken items in, and together, with specialists restore them. Maidstone’s café is free to enter with a voluntary contribution requested for repairs made.
