Team Repair is being held at the Maidstone Borough Council (MBC) Eco Hub, and children between the age of 10 and 14 are invited to come along and learn how to mend broken toys and gadgets.
The children’s workshops are being hosted by a team from the Maidstone Repair Café, Solar Together, South East Water, MCEN (Maidstone Climate Emergency Network) and Maidstone CAN (Climate Action Network). Workshops will be held between 10.30am – 12.30pm and 1.30pm – 3.30pm on Saturday.
MBC Cabinet Member for Climate Transition and Nature Recovery, Cllr Mike Summersgill said:
It is just too easy to throw away things that are broken because we don’t have the knowledge on how to fix them. Repairing things like this helps us reduce the volume of items that we throw away and end up in landfill.Repair Cafés are a great initiative. These children’s workshops are absolutely free and will bring together specialists who can teach young people how to mend things.
Located in The Mall shopping centre, Unit 101 on the lower level, close to the exit onto Gabriel’s Hill, Maidstone’s Eco Hub is open to the public this week until 9 November, and everyone is invited to drop in for advice to help them become more sustainable.
The Maidstone Eco Hub is proving very popular again this year. Visitors can take part in fun family activities, interesting talks and competitions. There are also children's craft workshops, information on money saving grants, an art competition, recycling and energy saving advice, a freecycle swap shop, active travel advice and much more.
The hub is also hosting local sustainable businesses and other organisations who have been invited to showcase and demonstrate their goods and services to reach local people and create clarity and confidence in making more environmentally friendly choices.
