Located in The Mall shopping centre, Unit 101 on the lower level, next to Timpson’s and close by the exit onto Gabriel’s Hill, Maidstone’s Eco Hub will be open to the public from Saturday 26 October to 9 November, and everyone is invited to drop in for advice to help them become more sustainable.
Now in its third year, the pop-up community information centre will support people to live more sustainably, save money and reduce their carbon footprint.
Cllr Stuart Jeffery, Leader of MBC said:
“The aim of the Eco Hub is to raise awareness of the climate and nature emergencies and while most action needs to happen at governmental level, people are keen to play their part. Those who would like to know more or who may be unsure where to start, can drop by for advice, and to see what they can do at an individual level to live a little more sustainably.”
The Eco Hub will include local sustainable businesses and other organisations who have been invited to showcase and demonstrate their goods and services to reach local people and create clarity and confidence in making more environmentally friendly choices. There will also be a series of events, talks and workshops of sustainable products and practices for the public to take part in.
Stuart continues:
"We have also officially launched the recently agreed Nature Recovery Declaration. Maidstone will be the first Council in the South East to have ratified such a potentially transformational statement of intent, this is a wonderful positive start to the Eco Hub.”
The Hub is holding fun family activities, interesting talks and competitions. With children's craft workshops, information on money saving grants, an art competition, recycling and energy saving advice, a freecycle swap shop, active travel advice and much more.
