Community Groups urged to apply for free hire of Mote Hall image

Maidstone Borough Council (MBC), in conjunction with Maidstone Leisure Trust, is offering free hire of Mote Hall at the Maidstone Leisure Centre to two community groups or charities in the borough during 2026-2027.

Local Community Groups and charities who have an event taking place between 1 April 2026 and 31 March 2027 are being invited to submit an application to hire the hall on one occasion for free. Interested groups should apply to MBC by midnight on Sunday 1 February 2026 (only one application per organisation).

Any groups who successfully complete the application process and meet the necessary criteria will be considered for the offer. Interested parties can apply online by going to the MBC website.

Mote Hall is the main sports hall inside the Maidstone Leisure Centre. It seats up to 1,200 people or up to 1,000 standing with a stage and can cost up to £2,100 to hire.

(Please note - the free let only covers the cost of hire for Mote Hall; additional costs for staffing, set up and down, equipment, lighting, sound and other costs will still be chargeable.)

MBC Cabinet Member for Community Cohesion and Safety, Cllr David Naghi, said:

The Council is pleased to be able to offer the use of Mote Hall for free once again this year. It is a fantastic space to bring communities together, so if your group matches the criteria, please make an application.

Priority will be given to groups which best evidence their ability to meet the following criteria (in any order):

  • Sporting or cultural events
  • Events which are unlikely to go ahead without the free hire
  • Organisations that benefit Borough residents
  • Not-for-profit events
  • Events which support young people and other target groups
  • Organisations which have not previously been granted a free hire

Full details about how to submit your application can be found on the Council’s website.

The deadline for applications for 2026/27 is midnight on Sunday 1 February 2026.

Maidstone Borough Council sets a strategic priority to collaborate with the voluntary and community sector to strengthen communities and empower residents. The opportunity to come together and feel pride of place through these free lets reflects this objective.
