To celebrate, The Terrace is hosting a free networking event, and all local businesses are invited on Thursday 24 July from 5-7pm to hear from guest speakers Hannah Spence and Tunde Daczo, who will share their experiences and stories of The Business Terrace over the years, along with advice and tips for new entrepreneurs.
The Business Terrace opened in 2015 with the MBC commitment to increase jobs, business startup and survival rates and opportunities within the Maidstone local economy. The Council project provides flexible and affordable office space for start-ups and established businesses, utilising vacant Council office space, and, over the decade, more than 1,000 businesses have benefited from the support at The Terrace. MBC’s Economic Development Team is proud that the space has hosted three of Kent’s ‘Top 30 under 30’ entrepreneurs during this time.
Karl Cowell, Creative Director at The Wix Guys, has been a tenant at the Terrace over the last decade and spoke about the support provided by the team and fellow tenants, saying:
In my time at The Business Terrace, we have done the full progression: from a start-up space to our own office, and the ability to shrink and grow at the centre has really allowed us to develop. We have been here for seven years in total and always gravitate back to the Terrace as it is a space to collaborate, rather than to compete.
Following its successful launch, the Terrace expanded in 2016 and 2018 and now offers over 8,000sqft of office space, with meeting rooms and hot desking opportunities available. The Terrace also hosts the MBC Economic Development Team’s business support service with regular seminars, workshops and networking events held for new and established businesses throughout the year.
Commenting on the anniversary celebrations, Cllr Stephen Thompson, MBC Cabinet Member for Stronger Healthier Communities, said:
We are incredibly proud that The Business Terrace has made such a significant impact on our local economy over the past decade. Small businesses are crucial in our mission to make Maidstone the business capital of Kent and it is wonderful to see our tenants and partner businesses thriving through the outstanding work of the Business Terrace team. This special networking event will offer a great opportunity to connect local businesses and entrepreneurs, meet the current team, and to celebrate what’s best about doing business in Maidstone.
Businesses are invited to register for the free networking event here.
