News Monsters to take over Maidstone
Giant monsters are set to take over Maidstone town centre as part of a brand-new family attraction coming to the town.
One Maidstone BID, supported by Maidstone Borough Council, is launching Maidstone's Monster Mash, an exciting trail that will see a collection of larger-than-life inflatable monsters take over prominent town centre locations.
Whilst there is a bit of a wait before giant monsters descend on the town this October half-term, people are already being invited to get involved by designing Maidstone's official Monster Mascot. From giant tentacled space squid to fluffy bug-eyed beasts, organisers want to see the town's most imaginative monster ideas brought to life.
With entries closing at the end of August, the team will have enough time to bring the winning creation to life as the official mascot for Maidstone's Monster Mash and featured throughout the event and promotional campaign.
Michelle Woodland, CEO of One Maidstone BID, said: "We're incredibly excited to bring Maidstone's Monster Mash to the town centre this October. These giant monsters will transform the skyline and create a fun, family-friendly experience for residents and visitors alike. As part of the event, we're inviting the community to help create Maidstone's very own Monster Mascot, and we can't wait to see the imaginative designs people come up with."
Councillor Stephen Thompson, Cabinet Member for Stronger Communities, said: "There are already so many great reasons to visit Maidstone town centre, from our fantastic shops, restaurants and attractions to the events that bring people together throughout the year. This autumn, we're adding another reason to make a trip into town as giant monsters take over the skyline for what promises to be a fun, friendly and memorable family experience.
“At Maidstone Borough Council, we're proud to support the Monster Mash trail and the wider programme of events being delivered across the borough to attract visitors, support our local businesses and help keep Maidstone a thriving and vibrant place to live, work and spend time.
“I'd encourage everyone to get involved and have a go at creating Maidstone's official Monster Mascot. Entry forms are available from Creative Maidstone Community Arts Hub and I can't wait to see the wonderfully weird and imaginative creations that our community comes up with."
The competition is free to enter and open to people of all ages. The winning design will be brought to life as Maidstone's official Monster Mascot and will receive:
- An A4 print of their animated monster design
- An age-appropriate Monster Mash Mystery Pack
- Recognition as the creator of Maidstone's official Monster Mascot
