The much-loved play area has been completely refreshed and relaunched as the Discovery Den. The space has been redesigned to encourage visitors to take time out, unwind and engage with a range of sensory features.
The new area includes a calming colour palette, bubble tubes, a sandpit, tactile elements and a softly lit star cloth ceiling. Created by Funtasia Design, the space supports the Museum’s commitment to learning through play and hands-on discovery, encouraging curiosity and creativity in a comfortable, relaxed setting.
The Discovery Den was officially opened by the Mayor of Maidstone Councillor Brian Clark, who was joined by museum representatives and local children, invited to explore the space for the first time.
The new space builds on Maidstone Museum’s wider offer for families, giving visitors more opportunities to interact with displays in a relaxed and engaging way while supporting different needs and preferences.
Natalie Moor, Museum and Heritage Manager, said: “We want our visitors to be able to engage with the Museum and its collections in their own way. By creating an experience that blends playfulness with a sense of calm, we hope to enhance their overall enjoyment and connection to the museum”
