The village branch, previously based on the High Street (ME18 6HS), closed on Wednesday 10 June after the retirement of long-standing sub-postmasters Tim and June and the withdrawal of the premises for Post Office use.
Post Office Ltd has now confirmed that services will resume on an interim basis at the Parish Council Office/Old Post Office, High Street, ME18 6HS. The outreach service will be run by the postmaster from Wateringbury Post Office while a permanent solution is sought.
The temporary service will provide a similar range of Post Office services and aims to ensure continued local access, particularly for residents who are unable to travel to nearby branches in Wateringbury or East Peckham.
Cllr Grace Couch, Ward Member for Marden and Yalding, said: “I’m pleased that, following strong joint lobbying from the community and the council, the Post Office has agreed to provide an interim outreach service for Yalding. This will make a difference to residents, particularly those who cannot easily travel to other villages. We’re grateful to the Parish Council for stepping in to provide a space and help keep this service accessible locally while a permanent solution is explored.”
Post Office Ltd said the outreach service forms part of its commitment to maintaining access to services while longer-term arrangements are put in place.
